What is Cognitive Behavioural THerapy?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that
focuses primarily on three main areas:
- the way that we think
- the way that we feel (emotionally and physically)
- the way that we behave.
Through exploring these three main areas, CBT aims
to develop an understanding of how these areas relate to one
another and how this can feed into negative vicious cycles,
affecting the way that we feel and reducing our quality of life.
Once these vicious cycles have been identified, CBT aims
to then consider more helpful, less destructive ways of thinking
and behaving in order to improve the way we feel and help us
to achieve a more positive mental well-being and way of life.
CBT is the most evidence based form of psychotherapy available and is
approved and recommended by the National Institute for Health and
Care Excellence (NICE) in treating a wide range of psychological
difficulties including:
- Anxiety Disorders
- Panic
- Depression
- Phobias
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Low self-esteem/confidence
- Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
- Stress
- Anger
- Sleep difficulties
- Worry
